Michael Little is Co-Director of The Social Research Unit at Dartington, an independent charity bringing good science to bear on policy and practice in Europe and the United States. He does some of the things university scientists do -research, writing books and articles, training doctoral students- and other things that help policy makers, systems leaders and philanthropists use science to improve child well-being -designing investment strategies, preparing decision making tools, improving implementation. His idea is to forge new ideas from collective wisdom, test those ideas and, if they work, get them embedded into the daily experience of children, at home, in school and in the extra help provided to them by public services. He has enjoyed success and failure in equal measure.
